Would you buy a Nintendo D$ for the 3rd time?

Nintendo issues a non-denial DS denial – Engadget

Rumors abound in the internet regarding a new DS SKU being announced in a press conference on Wednesday. Nintendo has neither confirmed nor denied the claim.

Why I think there really is a new DS coming out.

Everyone already has one. Why buy one more? Unless of course there’s something in there.
The DS lite design is a couple of years old and will need a refit other than colors.
They need something to keep the excitement about the DS alive when there’s a resurgence of the PSP.

Why I think there will not be another DS coming out.

The old one still works.
People will still buy a new DS just change the color.
They’re actually announcing the next generation hand held device.

Note that I have used the word device instead of handheld gaming console. Which means could they be adding something new?

Insert this between KH 1 and 2

Square Enix: Kingdom Hearts Re-Beat On PS2 This December

When I got my hands on Kingdom Hearts 2, I was a bit thrown off by the story since it assumed that a lot happened after KH 1. A gameboy advance exclusive, KH: Chain of Memories was released before KH: 2 to explain the events after KH 1. Does this make any sense?

To put it plainly, this game goes between KH 1 and 2 and is coming to the PS2 this December. Yes I did write PS2.

Now if only Sony will put back the BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY in the PS3. Then this game will sell more than what they can anticipate.

Release dates are tied?

Diablo III: Diablo III’s Release Will Precede StarCraft 2’s

Kotaku reports that Blizzard’s Starcraft 2 release and Diablo 3 release dates are rumored to be tied together. This means Blizzard will not release Starcraft until Diablo is ready to ship.

This begs the question, why? If that’s the case then I don’t think we can expect Starcraft to be a stocking stuffer this holiday season.

Home early!

Today was a pretty good day. I’m home early! Apparently the typhoon over Hong Kong is cancelling a number of flights into China. Not that it has anything to do with me.

My hectic schedule has driven me away from my Wii Fit again. I forsee this happening for another two weeks for the duration of the Olympics.

But that doesn’t stop me from trying to read all of my RSS feeds and flagging those I want to blog about.

Gizmodo posts that Electric City Akihabara is now on Google Street Maps. Kakoii!

PS3 fans still have something to be happy about. FF Versus XIII is still a PS3 exclusive – Kotaku

I’ll see if I can post more stuffs tomorrow.

E3 is now over and how did we do?

I think I did pretty well in predicting some E3 announcements.

Things I got right

Animal Crossing for the Wii
Newer Xbox 360 (actually HD upgrade to 60GB)
Newer PS3 (now with dual shock 3 and 80 GB)
Star Wars Game for the iPhone (does it count as a major game?)
Pikmin for the Wii
Rock Band instruments are now cross compatible with future Guitar Hero games
Almost got it right with Bungie (if not for its “publisher”)

It’s not bad. I missed out on all the new Wii peripherals and no really redesign or controllers with any of the consoles.
The biggest surprise was certainly the Square-Enix jump to the 360. But Sony is apparently saving something for the Tokyo Game Show which happens this fall.

E3 Predictions

E3 is just next week. And everyone is trying to predict what the gaming universe will unveil. Some are expected but we are looking for the unexpected.

Here are just some of mine.

Animal Crossing for the Wii
A new version of the Xbox 360 console
A new version of the PS3
Xbox handheld to compete with the DS and PSP
An even smaller Nintendo DS
New controllers for the Xbox and the PS3
Major game for the iPhone

Some things I wish they would announce at E3
PS1 downloadable games for the PSP
Pikmin for the Wii
New HD Wii console
PS2 downloadable games for the PS3
Bungie is no longer Xbox exclusive
Rock Band instruments would finally work with all Guitar Hero games (at least the PS3 and 360 ones)
God of War 3 for the PS3
Shadow of the Colossus 2 for the PS3

I’ll probably write about more things before Monday.

Rumor mongering

Phantasy Star Portable Information Overload news from 1UP.com
Rumor: Shenmue On Wii, Anyone? Anyone?

Let the rumors begin!

The first story is not exactly a rumor. The next installment of Phantasy Star will be on the PSP. Wouldn’t it be great if you can actually have an MMO on your handheld and if you don’t, you can always play the single player game. Much like one of the first (if not ground breaking) MMOs on a console and that being the Dreamcast.

Will Shenmue actually make the light of day? Now this is really a rumor. I have a copy of Shenmue on the original Dreamcast and missed Shenmue II on the Xbox (which I regret). So news of this game coming out really has me very excited. But based on how earlier incarnations of this series ended up, I highly doubt it will actually come out. But I’d like to be wrong on this one.
