Persona 3 PSP coming to North America in July

Official Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable Website

Good news to English speaking fans of Persona. Atlus is bringing one of the last great RPGs of the PS2 to English speaking shores on the PSP. But this version is no port. It’s a brand new story and you get choose if you’re going to play a male or female character. One of the big draws of the game is the in-game social aspect where you try to “win” your classmates as you try to juggle your life between fighting shadows at night and studying to making friends during the day. It pretty much puts you in the shoes of the character.

Atlus just  has so much love for it’s fans that they bundle the soundtrack with the game which is unseen in other game publishers and what took Sega ages to decide whether or not to bring Yakuza 3 over to countries that speak another language other than Japanese. It takes them less than a year to bring over their titles. Persona 3 FES was once feared never to see western shores made it. I applaud Atlus for bringing over these games. I do hope that they get their PS3 game done soon and bring them over as well.

Good things come to those who wait

In order to keep RPG fans placated until Final Fantasy 13 comes out, White Knight Chronicles International edition will be on sale on February 2. This is great news! Finally a game that will keep me off Dragon Age. But does what Dragon Age didn’t do and that is 4 player online co-op. You can play with random people off the internet or form a party with your friends. Much like Diablo, you can carry over your single player character to the online one. But this game offers more than what Diablo did. It almost like an MMO that you can play without having a care in the world, or play it MMO style, form parties and explore what the world has to offer.

The international edition comes with improvements from the original Japanese version along with some fixes. See, it pays to wait sometimes.

DLC Returned to Bioware

Dragon Age Return To Ostagar DLC Now Unavailable – Dragon age: origins – Kotaku

According to reports posted on Kotaku.com, the delayed DLC for Dragon Age: Origins “Return to Ostagar” was available on the Xbox Marketplace for a while before it was pulled out due to bug with specialization skills.

Returned!?!? You can imagine what went down at the forums after this announcement.

Then let the chaos begin.

I’m actually losing hope that the Awakening expansion will out on time in April if they can’t get this 1 hour DLC off the ground, what more with 15 hours in Awakening. They may be able to get my faith back if they are able to make one of these “announced” release dates true. In the meantime, Bayonetta, you have all of my time until White Knight Chronicles and Final Fantasy 13 till then.

Final Fantasy XIII Video Game, International Trailer HD

Final Fantasy XIII Video Game, International Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com.

The international trailer is out and it’s making me want to play the game now. It’s scheduled to be released on both the Xbox and PS3 on March 9. I still think that game is already complete and we’re all just waiting for the Xbox version to come out. At the least we’re no longer waiting more than 6 months for the English version to be released.

Gran Turismo 5 DELAYED

Gran Turismo 5 Delayed, New Release Date: TBA – gran turismo 5 – Kotaku

January hasn’t been good to gamers so far. First there was the Dragon Age expansion pack pulled at the last minute and now Gran Turismo 5 will not be released in March in Japan and has returned to the ominous TBA release date.

i know that Kazunori Yamauchi is a perfectionist but that’s what updates are for. If Polyphony keeps this up they might find themselves as the next Duke Nukem. They’ve already spent $60 million dollars already making this a very very expensive game already. It’s almost just as expensive as a major Hollywood picture. Just because GT5 was demoed in CES last week in full 3D glory doesn’t mean we’re looking forward to play it in 3D in March since 99.8% of the people buying it don’t have the equipment just yet.

I’m almost at a point where why even bother stating release dates at all. At this point I wont believe anyone’s release date until they’ve actually reached the gold master. Because this is getting ridiculous.

Dragon Age Origins: Awakening details

Dragon Age Origins – Awakening

I finally have read the details on Bioware’s official website on Dragon Age Origins: Awakening. I’m almost afraid on what word they will add in the next expansion. Think of it as Dragon Age Origins: Awakening Journey to Orlais. It will be almost just as ridiculous as hearing Final Fantasy MCMLXXXVIII and so on.

But back to the expansion. You have a choice of either importing your Dragon Age: Origins character or starting anew as a Grey Warden from Orlais sent to Ferelden to rebuild the Grey Wardens. Apparently the story revolves around the fact the archdemon was predicted to be slain for that event to give way for the rise of more darkspawn. This refers to the talking darkspawn.

You’ll get five new party members plus an old one from DAO. From my previous post, I assumed this was Oghren because of the screenshot of the trailer. But no more Leliana? No Wynne? Zevran can go for all I care. The dog?

I see a new area called Vigil’s Keep. I wonder if we can visit any of the current areas and what’s happened since the blight ended.

When you scroll down the page, you see this image.

I guess we haven’t seen the last of Morrigan.

Dragon Age Origins Awakening coming in March

The rumors are true! An expansive Dragon Age adventure continues in March.

Judging from the video released by Bioware. At least there aren’t any spoilers that most would notice. Unless you consider the defeat of the Archdemon a spoiler. Maybe other than the fact that Alistair becomes…I don’t think I should spoil it that way. Aside from Alistair, I can only see Oghren and from the looks of it that’s either new mage companion or a new PC.

Here’s the face of your talking darkspawn.

I wonder who she is? Another apostate? A mage from Tevinter?

He looks like the one from the Asunder quest.

It looks to me that you can carry off your save game from Dragon Age: Origins since one of them is wearing the Juggernaut armor set. Just how much is transferred from your old save game remains to be seen.

Anyhow, I just feel all the more uncomfortable about the timing of all of this. Just a day after they announced that they will not be releasing Return to Ostagar, they release a video stating the release of an new expansion pack. But I feel so let down, and teasing me with another trailer isn’t helping. Not to mention they mention an exact release date of March 16. If they don’t want so much backlash over their release dates they should have just written “Spring 2010” or “March 2010” if they’re so sure of themselves. Neither of which are still not in my hands. There’s no mention whether or not this will be downloaded or another disc purchase. From all the new content they’re stuffing in. I’m betting a new disc purchase. I’m sure we’ll learn of more details in the coming months.

Really now?

Delayed Return to Ostagar

Dragon Age: Origins Won’t Return To Ostagar On Time – Dragon age: origins – Kotaku

If you’ve been clicking the refresh button on the Playstation Store, Xbox Marketplace and Bioware website for the past few hours in hopes of getting the new DLC for Dragon Age then you’re out of luck. Bioware has announced that the Return to Ostagar has been delayed for all platforms and no new announcement on when this will be available.

This sucks. I’ve been looking forward to the expansion. I’ve even leveled up a new character to just before the landsmeet. I should have known better than trust release dates from gaming companies. But I’ll get really pissed if they’re going to make me until March for the DLC. We’ll be watching you Bioware. Always watching. Replies to the announcement are rather interesting. Here’s some of them.

And to top it off…

The forum has grown to over 80 pages in just a matter of hours. I wonder how long this is going to last.

Rumor: Dragon Age major update in March

Both Kotaku and 1UP.com are reporting that 2009 RPG of the Year Dragon Age will be getting a huge expansion in March. Currently listed as Dragon Age: Awakening. According to the report, the expansion will take place after the storyline of DAO and will introduce a new character and a new origin story. Unlike the current available expansions, this one is said to clock in at 15 hours of gameplay.

Then there’s the cost. The rumored street price between $30-40 USD for the PC version with a more expensive Xbox version. No PS3 version was mentioned.

CO-OP episode 0305 mentioned that Bioware has prepared 2 years of DLC on Bioware to keep fans busy over the next few months.

These DLCs have been quite controversial with gamers. EA reports $1 Million in DLC sales for Dragon Age. This is interesting since almost all of the DLCs were given away for free with the exception of “Warden’s Keep”. The mainreason why this DLC has been downloaded so many times is the fact that after completing the quest, you gain access to a party chest where you can store an unlimited number of items. In my first playthrough, I was selling a lot of items and destroying a lot as well since there was a 120 item limit to your inventory. This expansion then became a necessity to play the game.

But the cost is something for some gamers to take pause before buying this for an additional 15 hours more gameplay. Unless of course you’re as addicted as me. But if the rumors are to be believed, does it mean that I have to create a new character just for this expansion? I can’t bring my über character that I built with all the armor and weapons that I’ve accumulated? That would really suck for me. But there’s no mention yet on what happens to your companions.

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT

Maybe Bioware will apply the same mechanics they’re doing with Mass Effect 2, where your choices affect the events of the next game. To put it simply, your choices determine if Commander Shepard continues on the next game. If you’re moving through Dragon Age at a good pace, you know that certain dialogue choices can make you lose certain party members.

END SPOILER ALERT

Bioware has laid down the foundation for a very expansive RPG series. There are some elements that will remind you of Dragonlance and Lord of the Rings but will still maintain a certain uniqueness to it. I am pretty sure that we will be able to explore the entire world of Thedas in the years to come.
